Conditionals and Probability
The problem of the nature of conditional statements has nagged away at philosophers since ancient times. It is central not only to the philosophy of language but also to the philosophy of science, psychology, logic and AI. The relationship between probabilities and conditionals is of particular interest. This special issue is devoted to this theme. It aims at dissecting the relationships between conditionals and probability according to the different points of view.
Studies in the field of logic and formal epistemology (algebraic, proof-theoretic, semantical and purely probabilistic), philosophical discussions as well as empirical studies, will all be appreciated. However, the submitted contribution should have clear philosophical implications.
Papers can focus on every aspect that concerns the relationships between conditionals and probability. Of particular interest, although not exclusively, will be discussions that revolve around the Ramsey test and the so-called Lewis’s Triviality Results, especially about compounds of conditionals. Attempts to encompass various kind of conditionals (indicative, counterfactuals, and so on) in a single framework are encouraged.
