Joulia Smortchkova

 

Joulia Smortchkova holds a Junior Professor Chair at the Institut de Philosophie de Grenoble (IphiG), University Grenoble Alpes, and is an associate member of the “Chaire de philosophie du langage et de l’esprit” at the Collège de France. She mainly works in the philosophy of mind and cognitive science. Her philosophical interests include the philosophy of perception, the philosophy of social cognition (especially their intersection), the relation between perception and memory, metacognition and conceptual change in infants, and the role of mental representations in psychological explanations. Recently, she started exploring issues related to the philosophy of art and, more specifically, the nature of atmospheres. Her current project focuses on the phenomenon of first impressions.
