On 13 December 2023, the PEA research group at the University of Genoa hosted Murray Smith for a workshop on his Film, Art, and the Third Culture: A Naturalized Aesthetics of Film, an event prompted in part by its Italian translation, under the title Cinema, evoluzione, neuroscienze: Un’estetica naturalizzata del film, which won the Limina award for best Italian translation of a major contribution to film studies. On that occasion, Enrico Terrone (University of Genoa, PI of the PEA ERC project), Adriano D’Aloia (University of Bergamo, one of the prime movers behind the Italian translation), Federica Cavaletti (University of Milan), and I (post-doc on the PEA ERC project) presented papers engaging the central themes of Smith’s book, with Smith responding to each of them and to interventions from the audience.
